Common reasons photos get rejected
- Uploading a file over 240 KB to DS-160, it will get rejected on submission.
- Uniforms in the photo (religious clothing worn daily is the one exception).
- Wearing glasses.
- Using an old photo. It has to reflect how you currently look.
Taking the photo at home
- Take the photo in the clothes you'd normally wear day to day.
- Face the camera straight on, don't tilt your head.
- Use a plain white or off-white wall as the backdrop.
- Check the file size after cropping. If it's over 240 KB, compress it before uploading to DS-160.
